The DStv Premiership clash between Royal AM and Mamelodi Sundowns at Chatsworth Stadium was abandoned as a result of inclement weather on Saturday. The two teams took to the field in windy, blustery and cold conditions in Durban and the game lasted just 20-odd minutes before match officials ordered both sets of players off.

The fixture was eventually called off due to a waterlogged pitch, although there were chances at both ends in the early stages.

The reigning champions threatened after just five minutes when the league’s top scorer, Peter Shalulile, made contact with Neo Maema’s cross to get a header on target, but Patrick Nyame was equal to the task.

The next two opportunities came the way of the hosts as Lantshene Phalane forced Reyaad Pieterse into a save with a header from Mokete Mogaila’s cross on nine minutes before Tebogo Potsane tested with Brazilians keeper with a shot from range three minutes later.

Conditions quickly became trickier as rain kept on falling and the decision was finally taken to leave the pitch following consultations with both captains.
