The Premier Soccer League, PSL, has confirmed charges against Moroka Swallows, following their failure to honour two DSTV Premiership matches in December 2023.

Swallows failed to show up for their fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns on 27 December 2023 and Lamontville Golden Arrows on the 30th of December 2023, and this was reportedly due to payment disputes between the club and its players.

Speaking through a voice recording shared by the PSL on Thursday, 04 January 2024, PSL prosecutor, Zola Majavu confirmed the charges.

“I can confirm that yesterday [Wednesday], Moroka Swallows Football Club was charged for misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute, pursuant to their failure to honour fixtures scheduled for 27 and 30 December 2023 respectively,” said Majavu.

“They will appear before the PSL DC [Disciplinary Committee] on 11 January 2024 at 11h00 at the offices of the League. Once the matter is finalised, only then will I give a further update on the outcome of the DC proceedings.

“Until then, there will be no further commentary on this matter, as per usual.”

Meanwhile, Swallows had also released a statement immediately after the cancellation of the matches, citing “unresolved dispute between players and management; that has resulted in management having to request cancellation of the two remaining games of this year from the PSL, to allow it time to correct the situation.”
