MTN8 defending champions have moved a step closer to the possibility of clinching the MTN8 trophy for the second time in a row, following a thumping 5-0 win over Sekhukhune United. Pirates hosted Sekhukhune in the second quarterfinal match of the Wafa Wafa tournament at the Orlando Stadium, following an earlier fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows.

Sundowns have advanced to the semi-finals, beating the Dube Birds 1-0, at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane.

Pirates, who had another big win in their midweek league fixture, beating Royal AM 4-2, kept their winning squad from Tuesday evening.

The Buccaneers reign of goals started in the 22nd minute through Patrick Maswanganyi, with Zakhele Lephasa scoring the first of his three goals of the match.

Buccaneers made it 3-0 thanks to Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo in the 58th minute, with Monnapule Saleng following with his own goal to tally the goals up to 4.

A mistake from the visitors saw Pirates be awarded a penalty in the 79th minute, it was however missed by Lephasa. Lephasa was however not done for the match as he netted his third goal for the evening in the dying minutes of the match.

Pirates and Sundowns now wait for the last two fixtures of the quarterfinals to know who they will be playing against in the semi-finals. Cape Town City host Kaizer Chiefs in Cape Town, while SuperSport United host Stellenbosch United in Polokwane. Kick-off for these fixtures is 3pm and 6pm respectively.
