After failing to progress to the final match of the Prince Mongosuthu Legacy Cup over the weekend, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi said that he was not happy with the club’s performance, and the status of the ground they played on, and that he was happy that the players came out without injuries because the ground was so bumpy and not conducive to playing a game.

“We played well and created a lot of chances but could not keep the players for a long period on the field to avoid risking injuries. Players like Themba Zwane, Gastón Sirino and Rushine De Reuck could not play on Saturday because they were nursing injuries and we didn’t want to risk them further, ” he said.

Mngqithi added that their main focus was on not losing many players as they played in the first match and wanted to use the other players in the second match so that they give each player as much as enough time to play.

“I am very happy for Richards Bay and how they have prepared for the team as they are very exciting but it’s still a long way to go for them and they still have a lot of work to do in the top league,” Mngqithi added.

The coach was also thrilled at how a team that has just been promoted can hold their fort.

Mngqithi concluded by singing the praised of Richards Bay goalkeeper, saying that he did very well against them.
