On Thursday AmaZulu FC coach Benni McCarthy whimpered against poor officiating when his side lost 1-0 to Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium, on Saturday Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi shared the same sentiments towards match officials.
Mngqithi had a mouthful to say about the level of referring during their goalless draw against Swallows FC in their DStv Premiership encounter.
Speaking during a post-match presser, Mngqithi pointed out that there were many tackles that went unpunished in the game.
“There were calls for a penalty from both teams but the referee just ignored them. You saw that (Thabo) Matlaba tackle on Villa and the one of Cheeseboy on Modiba and then Mvala and Cheeseboy clash? And there was a call for a penalty when Shalulile was brought down in the box and there were also calls for penalty in the Swallows box,” he said.
Mngqithi added that it was important to talk about both sides as the officials didn’t play their part on the day.
Mngqithi however admitted to a slow start his side experienced in the first half, also admitting that Swallows were a better side. He added that his side picked up pace towards the end of the first half, putting their best foot forward and taking control of the game, though they could not break down Swallows.
