Maritzburg United head coach John Maduka is hopeful his side will get it right in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season, Maduka’s comment comes after his side played to a one all draw against Sekhukhune United on Saturday night at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

The Team of Choice had to come from behind to equalize from a penalty awarded in the 81st minute as Brandon Theron was brought down in the box.

The Malawian born mentor said that though the game started on a slow pace for them, they improved as the game progressed and he believed they could have won the match.

“It’s true we didn’t start very well and we conceded a simple goal which we were not supposed to concede at all, but from that goal until our equaliser we were in control of the game. You know we have new players from different teams and we are building our own team, so we will come right.

“For today we will take a point and go home and prepare for the next game. Of course we would have loved to win tonight but a point is still fine looking at the way we started the game. The players did very well and they showed commitment and wanted to win. That’s the spirit we want as a team, ” the former Royal AM coach concluded.

Meanwhile his Sekhukhune counterpart Kaitano Tembo lamented the chances his side created but failed to convert.

The former SuperSport United coach said that had they converted all the chances created, Sekhukhune would have left victors come stoppage time.

“I don’t think the draw is a true reflection of the game. We shot ourselves in the foot. We created chances well enough to win the game but we didn’t take those chances. And the penalty itself, we could have done better there and cleared the ball. If we had done that we could be talking of a different story now. But it’s the first game of the season and playing away. We will take a point for today, ” Tembo said.
