Kaizer Chiefs have revealed Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC as their opponents in this year’s Toyota Cup. The big reveal was done during the launch event hosted at the newly built Kaizer Chiefs Café, at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena on Thursday.

Amakhosi hosted Tanzania powerhouse Young Africans Sporting Club in inaugural match that was played at the Toyota Cup in Bloemfontein last year.

This year will see Durban host this much anticipated heavyweight clash between Kaizer Chiefs FC and Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC. Set for Saturday, 26 July 2025, at Moses Mabhida Stadium, the fixture brings together two clubs with proud legacies, passionate fanbases, and a shared place in the heritage of African football.

“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil. Asante Kotoko are part of our shared history. The Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and is a celebration of our legacy. Durban is not only the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa, but a perfect place to write the next chapter of our history after winning the Nedbank Cup in May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium,” said Jessica Motaung, Marketing and Commercial Director at Kaizer Chiefs.

Asante Kotoko are one of Africa’s most decorated clubs with 50 official trophies including two CAF Champions League titles.

“It is with great joy and anticipation that we come to South Africa for the 2025 edition of the Toyota Cup. Football has always been a powerful bridge between people and nations, and this event shows what is possible when sport is supported by vision and purpose. We are proud to be part of this celebration of African unity and commend Toyota and Kaizer Chiefs for setting the standard for what African football can be,” said Edmund Awuah Asafu-Adjaye (Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah), Chairman of Asante Kotoko SC.

SABC will televise this highly anticipated event to the millions of football loving supporters across the continent.

Before the 3pm kick-off, fans will be treated to a mouth-watering curtain raiser between the Kaizer Chiefs Legends & Zulu Kingdom Legends at 12h00 which will include icons such as Doctor Khumalo, Sibusiso Zuma, Jabu Mahlangu, Delron Buckley and more.

Tickets for the event will go on sale from 26 June 2025 for R80 and will be available at Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave outlets nationwide as well as online on www.kaizerchiefs.com , https://opentickets.co.za/ToyotaCup and https://computicket.com.
