The MTN8 tournament has over the been associated with SuperSport United, and this, according to assistant coach Andre Arendse, puts pressure on the team. Arendse has said that the fact that people have made the MTN 8 “their” tournament and expect them to always win puts pressure on the players.
Arendse said this after his side lost 4-3 on penalties to Golden Arrows in the MTN 8 Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
“The players did very well and coming back from a goal down to equalise and lead but let it slip at the end and lost in penalties. It was a difficult game for us because people expect a lot from us mainly in the MTN8, but we did well and played very well. It’s just unfortunate we lost the game, ” Arendse said.
He added that while this result was not good going into the league next week, there were some positives to take from it.
“Normally the worry becomes injuries and other things, we are lucky that no one wass injured. And the other positive from the game is that we saw that they have good forward runs and that means that they can create chances, score goals and win games. This is a good sign going into the league next week, ” Arendse concluded.
