Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban to win the Nedbank Cup trophy and end their ten-year trophy drought on Saturday.

Gastón Sirino converted a penalty which was awarded after Deano van Rooyen nipped Pule Mmodi in the box at the start of the first half, handing the hosts the lead. Kaizer Chiefs lead was however short-lived when Evidence Makgopa, levelled matters with a well-taken finish.

Both sides went to the half-time break with a goal each. The second stanza of the match saw a stronger Chiefs, their fighting spirit eventually paid off through Yusuf Maart’s goal, sending the packed Moses Mabhida Stadium into a frenzy.

Amakhosi were crowned the champions, of the Ke Yona Cup, pocketing a cool R7 million. This is Chiefs first cup in 10 years, and coach Nasreddine Nabi’s very first cup in his first season in Naturena.

Amakhosi’s Nedbank Cup glory has secured them a spot in the CAF games in the next season.
