The stage is set for probably the biggest fixture of the 2024/25 Betway Premier League; the Nedbank Cup Final between the two Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
Kaizer Chiefs will host Orlando Pirates for the last domestic cup competition for the current season at Moses Mabhida Stadium, kick-off is at 15:30pm.
The two clubs met just last week in the Betway Premiership league fixture at the FNB Stadium, where the Buccaneers emerged victorious, coming back from 1-0 trail to beating Amakhosi 1-2.
While Amakhosi have had a series of inconsistent results, their neighbours have enjoyed some favourable results, a cup game however always brings surprises at the end of 90 minutes.
Just like how the Soweto Derby brings fans from all over the country, this Nedbank Cup clash was reportedly sold out within 90 minutes of the tickets going on sale on Monday the 5th of May, leaving many a thousand fans disappointed.
This cup competition holds a cash prize of R7 million, and of course bragging rights for the winners on Saturday.
Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi stands to win his very first cup for the Glamour Boys in his first season as coach, while Pirates’ mentor Jose Riveiro will be hoping to defend the cup, after winning it last season. With this being his last season as coach, Riveiro will be hoping to leave his faithful supporters with this trophy. Pirates announced last month that the Spanish mentor will not be returning to the club next season.
Meanwhile, the League and the organisers this week were inundated with enquiries around the ticket sales, the glitching system and the apparent threats from fans who failed to secure tickets.
KwaZulu-Natal law enforcement authorities have issued a stern warning to all attendees, encouraging those without tickets to consider staying away from the stadium.
Ticket holders have been advised to arrive early at the stadium, Park and Ride facilities have been set up.
Paid public parking areas will be accessible to the general ticket holders at Umngeni Badminton Parking, Suncoast, Mustering Fields/People’s Park East, Old Drive-in-Site and Kings Park Stadium.
Those without tickets can still join in on the fun at various fan parks. The fan parks at Albert Park and Beach Front will be open for those who couldn’t get tickets, offering an entertaining and festive atmosphere.
