The Sold out Moses Mabhida Stadium was sent into a frenzy when Orlando Pirates scored an equaliser goal against Stellenbosch FC in the MTN8 final played on Saturday, 05 October.
Pirates, who were playing their third final of the Wafa Wafa tournament for the third year in a row, were crowned champions after recovering from Stellies’ early goal, scoring two more goals, sealing their 3rd successive championship.
Bradley Mojela’s stunner of a goal opened the score sheet at the 13th minute of the match, but Jose Riveiro’s side equalised through Monnapule Saleng just before halftime to keep their title defense alive at half time.
The match looked to be heading to extra time when Tshegofatso Mabasa struck in the 91st minute and Relebohile Mofokeng sealed the comeback win five minutes later to spark wild celebrations around the stadium.
The Sea Robbers made them pay moments later when Mabasa popped up with his second goal in the competition and Mofokeng completed the comeback deep into stoppage time.
