Recently crowned Nedbank Cup 2024 champions, Orlando Pirates have announced the departure of a couple of their players. Pirates, who ended their 2023/24 DSTV Premiership season on a high, with their second trophy of the season, have already started trimming their squad, likely making space for new signings in preparation for 2024/25 season set to kick off in August.
Pirates confirmed on their website that Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare and Kermit Erasmus will be leaving the club when their respective contracts come to an end on June 30.

Ofori joined the Mighty Buccaneers in 2020 and played 58 matches, securing 29 clean sheets. Meanwhile 38-year-old Mpontshane leaves after nine seasons with the club.
Thabang Monare,34, featured in 93 matches for the Buccaneers. Monare leaves the club with 2 Nedbank Cup, 2 MTN8 Cup and a silver medal for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Erasmus rejoined the Buccaneers in 2022 after nine years away and made an immediate impact by helping them clinch the MTN8 title. With over 117 matches under his belt in Pirates colour, Erasmus has solidified his legendary status at the club.
Pirates also announced the departure of Fortune Makaringe, who was with the club for four seasons and playing 140 matches.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to these players for their unwavering service and commitment to the club. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours. It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we reflect on the contributions of these players during their time with us,” said the club in a statement.
