After going four games without a win, Kaizer Chiefs finally registered a win against SuperSport United over the weekend and as they prepare to host DSTV Premiership league log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday at the FNB Stadium, defender Given Msimango has drawn inspiration from their victory over United.
Speaking to members of the media during a media open day on Tuesday at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena, the former TS Galaxy FC defender said that the team was up in confidence going to the Sundowns game, saying their win against SuperSport United was a morale booster.
“That win was necessary; we needed that win. For us we have been playing very well and creating chances but the only thing the was lacking was scoring goals. We scored goals against SuperSport and to us that’s a confidence booster, it’s a morale booster. What we just need to do now is to be consistent in our performances. If we can continue playing like we did against SuperSport United we have a better chance of winning more games,” he said.

Continued Msimango, “If you look at the last four games, we created chances and we were just unlucky not to convert the chances we created, but going into the Sundowns game we are confident we can do better and win the game. Just as much as Sundowns need the three points, we also need the three points to close the gap with the teams above us.”
Chiefs are currently 8th in the league log with 33 points and they will be looking at collecting maximum points against a team that is yet to lose a match in the current season, are top of the log with 59 points and 10 points clear off the second placed Stellenbosch FC, a tall order but seemingly doable for Amakhosi.

According to Msimango, a win would enhance their chances of moving up the ranks.
“You see the point difference between number two to number eight is not that much. A win and three points can change things and we are still fighting for that CAF competition spot which is still possible if we can win all our remaining games. Our focus is on our games and that’s what we are going to do from Thursday against Sundowns,” Msimango concluded.
