The DSTV Premiership is back, and local football fans are happy about this- this was evident on Saturday night when they filled up the Loftus Versfeld Stadium for the Mamelodi Sundowns vs Orlando Pirates showdown.

The local league was on a break due to the Africa Cup of Nations 2024, which recently came to an end, with hosts Ivory Coast beating Nigeria in the finals.

Sundowns had 7 players in the Bafana Bafana squad.

While many had hoped to see Sundowns pick up where they left off in the first half of the current season, they dropped two points after playing to a one all draw with the Buccaneers, who finished the match with 10 men following midfielder Miguel Timm second yellow card in the 54th minute.

The Buccaneers are now winless in their last three outings and find themselves one point behind Stellenbosch (4th) and two ahead of arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs (6th) in filth place.

Sundowns came into the encounter with the intent of keeping their unbeaten start to the season intact, while Pirates were looking to arrest a two-match losing streak which had left them 13 points adrift of the league summit.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United let a lead slip in their 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch FC in Friday night’s DStv Premiership match played at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday night.
