Orlando Pirates have rubbed salt in the wounds of Kaizer Chiefs supporters following their 0-1 win over the Glamour Boys yesterday at the FNB Stadium. Chiefs hosted Pirates for the first instalment of the Soweto Derby for the 2023/24 season.

The two sides enjoyed great support from their faithful supporters who had packed the 90-thousand-seater calabash.

The hard-fought victory saw the Buccaneers climb up to the seventh spot on the league standings, while Chiefs dropped down to the 8th spot. Chiefs are set for yet another Soweto Derby, this time with Moroka Swallows in Dobsonville on November 26, while Pirates travel to KwaZulu-Natal to face Richards Bay a day before.

The lone goal of the game came through Evidence Makgopa in the first half of the match, with a pass from Bandile Masuku.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe also graced the FNB Stadium for the match, with South African Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa also joining them.

The trio is set to be at Loftus on Sunday for the second leg of the AFL Final against Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad FC. Kick off for this match is at 3pm.
