Orlando Pirates have been booted out of the Carling Knockout quarterfinals following their loss to Richards Bay on penalties on Saturday. The two played to a 0-0 draw, which led to extra-time at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Pirates, who were recently crowned the MTN8 Champions last month, missed out on an opportunity to progress to the semi-finals, they were beaten 5-4 on penalties.

The Natal Rich Boyz would emerge triumphant in the spot-kick lottery to advance to the semifinals as the Buccaneers’ dreams of a second trophy this season were dashed.

Kaitano Tembo’s side were fortunate not to be behind at the break after Hotto ratted the frame of the goal with an effort from inside the box on the stroke of halftime.

Manqele saved the first spot-kick from Hotto before Komane, Tshepo Mabua, Sinethemba Mngomezulu, Mbuthuma and Simphiwe Mcineka all held their nerve from 12 yards out to hand the Natal Rich Boyz a 5-4 win in the shootout.
