Although not a sold-out affair, the vibe at the FNB Stadium played a big part in Bafana Bafana beating guests Morocco 2-1 when the two nations met for their final match of the TotalEnergies AFCON qualifiers on Saturday evening.

The win ensured the continuation of unbeaten matches for Coach Hugo Broos’ charges, are now unbeaten in seven matches, and they made their intentions clear very early in the game after racing to a 5th minute lead through Percy Tau. The home side could have increased the lead on several occasions in the first half but had to settle for a 1-0 lead at halftime.

They returned with added urgency in the second period, and it was no surprise when Zakhele Lepasa beat Morocco goalkeeper Monir Kajoui to double the lead from close range in the 48th minute.

But the North Africans pulled a goal back through Hakim Ziyech in the 60th minute to ensure a thrilling final 30 minutes of the match.

Speaking after the match, the 71-year-old Belgian mentor, was full of praises for his charges, highlighting that tonight’s performance showed the progress the team has had in the last couple of months.

The two nations have already qualified for next year’s AFCON.
