Kaizer Chiefs are taking on their cross-town rivals Orlando Pirates in the first Soweto Derby post Covid 19 Lockdown, and this sold-out affair will be staged at the FNB Stadium on Saturday
Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has had the privilege of having played for both Soweto giants and he knows how much the nerves can take over on the day.
Speaking on Thursday during a pre-match press conference organised by the Premier Soccer League and League Sponsors, Multichoice, Zwane said that during his playing days, players calm themselves down differently ahead of the Derby but for him he used to listen to gospel music to calm himself down.
“I used to listen to a lot of gospel music to calm myself down. Other players pray other just play music but every player has his own way of calming their nerves. As for preparing for the game I know most players have done a lot ahead of the game. It’s not just any other game mind you, it’s the Soweto Derby and we don’t just want the three points but the bragging rights as well,” he said.
Zwane said as a player he won his last two derbies, and he would want to win his first Derby as a head coach.
” It would really be good for me to win my first Derby as a coach. But it will all depend on how we rise to the occasion as a team. This is a big game, and we need to all be focused on the day. Though we know we still have a lot of games to play before the season ends but this is the last game before the FIFA World Cup break, and we have to collect the three points. We have both played 12 games and we know this one won’t be the decider but it’s an important three points which is good for our confidence ahead of the break. We need the three points, ” Zwane concluded.
