The dominance DSTV Premiership defenders Mamelodi Sundowns have had in both the league and cup competitions in recent years is a cause for concern for other clubs, but all the decorated wins will not matter when Sundowns square off with Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
Sundowns visit the Orlando Stadium to square off against Pirates in the first semi-final leg of the MTN8 tournament, and Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has made it clear that past results will not matter when the two meet.
Speaking on Wednesday at the PSL Headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg, Riveiro said the current Pirates team was set to write a different story and make history.
“We are going into the game with one thing in mind and that is to win this game. The past two seasons won’t play on Saturday. We are not looking at the past results between the two teams. We are a different team with different players. We want to write our own story and make our own history. We want to win and travel in a few weeks with a goals advantage, ” he said.

” This is a different scenario with different teams. We have to continue showing our solidarity and concentration which comes through our commitment. Through our team spirit the players will show their capacity. We approach the game like we usually do and that is to defend when we have to defend and attack when we have to attack. We have to be solid to stop a team like Mamelodi Sundowns and we are ready for that, ” Riveiro explained.
