The organisers of the annual New Year’s Cup have said that DStv Premiership side Chippa United will be kindly announcing opponents for first time edition of OR Tambo Legendary Cup since it’s a World Cup year.
Luyanda Papu the as Cup LOC Coordinator told Footballive that SAFA Region invitational Team will also take the center stage for curtain raiser before the Cup final and that they were happy that the Eastern Cape will host one of the first edition of this Cup.
“OR TAMBO is known for hosting for one of high profile games back in the days for Mthatha Bush Bucks. The Legendary Cup is to celebrate the FIFA World Cup year by hosting one of the high profile games this November to bring back memories of the slaughter house, ” Papu said.
He added that the date and time announcement will be made soon by relevant stakeholders but they can confirm that Mthatha stadium will host high profile game this November.
” Chippa will also use this as a fertile exercise to test different squad members to shape up and remain active to keep up for the World Cup break,” Papu concluded.
