Chilean attacking midfielder Marcelo Allende has said that he joined Mamelodi Sundowns because it was the best team in Africa. Speaking through an interpreter on Thursday at the club’s training grounds in Chloorkop, Allende said that though there were other offers from Europe, he chose Mamelodi Sundowns because he wanted to win trophies and he believes The Brazilians are the right team for him to achieve that.

“I had not spoken to anyone from Chile about South African football or Mamelodi Sundowns. But I spoke to Uruguayan player Alofonso who told me that Sundowns is the best team, not only in South Africa but in Africa as well. I want to win trophies, many trophies and I know by playing for Sundowns I can achieve that,” he said.

On the chances of him returning to the Chilean national team he said that his focus on was on doing well for Sundowns and if things work out for him then it will be easy for the national team coach to see him.

” Of course I would like to go back to the national team but it will all start with me here at my club. I have to be at my best and give my best, score goals while playing well and also creating chances for my teammates. My performance at the club will make the national team coach call me, ” Allende said.

In conclusion he said that he was finding life in South Africa in general very good because South Africans are good friendly people.

” I am happy to he here. People here are so friendly and I am enjoying it. The only problem is driving. Here you drive on the left while at home we drive on the right. That’s all the difference,” he said with a laughter.
