TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi has so far kept three clean sheets in the three games that the team has played in the current season. Galaxy played to a goalless draw against AmaZulu before beating two Tshwane giants Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United 1-0 and 2-0 respectively.
Speaking on Wednesday during the club’s media day in Johannesburg, Buthelezi said that while it was the wish of every goalkeeper to win the goalkeeper of the year award, this was not his main focus at the moment. He said the priority was to see the team do better than they did last season and individual accolades can follow.
“You know every goalkeeper wants to win the goalkeeper of the year award, it is very good because it shows how hard you have worked for yourself and for the team as well. But as much as that’s important the team comes first. I am keeping these clean sheets because I am playing with my team mates and we are helping each other. We fight together to get these results and we will continue to do that, ” he said.

Buthelezi added that the competition between the goalkeepers and their coaches has helped him improve.
“Coach Ramovic is a former goalkeeper himself and his experience comes in handy at training and during games. But we also have coach Greg (Etafia) who has made sure that we are on top of our games as goalkeepers. Above all the competition amongst ourselves as goalkeepers also make us improve our performance. We support each other no matter whether you are playing or not. We are always competing but supporting each other as well, “Buthelezi concluded.
