The DSTV Premiership’s opening match brought all the thrills and chills to the field of play as defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, netted two goals past goalie Hugo Marques. Sundowns travelled down to the Cape to square off with hosts Cape Town City FC  in the first match of the 2022/2023 season at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on Friday night.

While the final score crowned the Brazilians the winner, the Citizens were no push overs as they held onto a goalless first half, with goals coming through via Aubrey Modiba and Themba Zwane in the second half.

The match also saw Sundowns new signing, Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams debut for Masandawana, keeping a clean sheet on his first match.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Soweto sides Orlando Pirates and Swallows FC, this afternoon when they tackle each other at the Orlando Stadium. Kick off is at 15:00pm. Attention will surely on Spaniard Jose Riveiro, Pirates new coach, who was brought in to try revive the Bucs’ sinking ship. This is Riveiro’s very first PSL run and the return of fans back to the stadium will sure give his players the support they will need from the stands.
