Following the launch of the “one time” Carling Black Label Cup Tournament last week, TS Galaxy Chairman Tim Sukazi has said that he thinks that all the 16 DStv Premiership teams should benefit from the one day affair and not just the top four that will proceed.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced that they will host this newly launched tourney in November and Sukazi said his initial understanding was that all the 16 teams will compete and not only the four which will accumulate more votes.
“I know that next season there will be the Carling Knockout Cup which replaces the Telkom Knockout where all the 16 DStv Premiership teams will compete, but the one I don’t understand is this one which will be played this year in November by only four teams. What method did they use to come up with this format? Why should teams vote in whichever method but not benefit from that and only four teams benefit from that? For example if supporters use Black Label beer to vote then the teams whose supporters buy those beers should also benefit,” said Sukazi.
“For instance if us as TS Galaxy mobilize our supporters to vote whether using callings in different mobile networks or buying beers and we have over 40 000 supporters who do that then we deserve to benefit from that, ” Sukazi added.
He was however quick to add that he thought the PSL Executives had applied their minds to this and they had the interest of the game at heart.
” If you look at it three teams are guaranteed their place in the cup already; Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates will be there and maybe TS Galaxy could be the forth one. But that means one out of the 13 is the other team. I think and believe in the executive and I know they have thought through this and it is to benefit football. As Galaxy we will mobilize our supporters because we want to be part of the Carling Cup, ” Sukazi concluded.
