Newly acquired T S Galaxy midfielder Sibusiso “Villa” Vilakazi has high hopes for his new club and teammates, he says he would like to see his team finish on a favourable spot in the league log in the upcoming season.

Speaking to Footballive during the unveiling of the club’s new squad ahead of the 2022/2023 DSTV season on Sunday in KwaMhlanga, Vilakazi said that the club was aiming to be within the top eight.

“Since I joined the team I have seen that we want to do better than last season. Last season we were on the other side of the table fighting relegation. We want to finish in one, two three or up to right position, not below that. With the technical team that we have we can achieve that,” he said.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns player also too a moment to thank both his former team as well as his current team for an opportunity to revive his football.

” First and foremost I have to thank everyone at Mamelodi Sundowns from the Chairman Mr Patrice Motsepe to Thlophie and coach Pitso together with coach Manqoba, coach Steve, coach Rhulani and the whole technical team. I had a really good time there. I won trophies and achieved things but every good thing comes to an end. Now I am here at Galaxy and I have to thank the Chairman and the board for showing interest in me and bringing me here.

“When they said they wanted me I didn’t hesitate because I know what they are made of and what they want to achieve. They always aim high and you have seen that before when they won the Nedbank Cup. As a team we want to continue from there and achieve silverware. We will fight for that this season and I am thankful to the chairman and the whole team for bringing me here, ” the former PSL Player of the Season said.

Villa also said that there hasn’t been much change for him moving from Sundowns to Galaxy as they still train in Johannesburg but only play games at Mbombela Stadium, in Mpumalanga.

” It’s not really a big change in terms of the environment as we train in Joburg but play our games in Mpumalanga. I love Mbombela Stadium. It’s very good but I hope we could also play some of our home games at Wits University. That would really be great for us. But no matter where we play our goals are the same and that to win games and put ourselves in good position in the league and fight for trophies as well, ” Vilakazi concluded.
