The Premier Soccer League chairperson, Dr Irvin Khoza, today announced that soccer loving fans would now be allowed to attend and watch live soccer matches. Khoza announced the much anticipated news following a meeting held yesterday with other stakeholders within the league.

“The executive committee has today set out the steps to be taken with the return of fans while emphasizing guidelines to be followed,” Khoza said during a press conference held at the PSL headquarters in Johannesburg.

“The member clubs are encouraged to adhere to these guidelines to ensure the return of fans in a responsible and safe fashion. The league has earmarked the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal matches of the 8th and 9th of April as the first matches that will be open to spectators. It will be difficult to start this weekend, as I’ve indicated that most of those matches have been categorised and approved.

Khoza emphasized that the issue of proof of vaccination was very important for supporters when they attend the matches. Proof of vaccination and an Identity Document will be required at entry, meanwhile those unvaccinated will need to produce a negative pcr test.

The League, Khoza announced, is earmarking a 100% capacity return to stadiums for all fans.

“Also crucially, we need to make clear that we value all the fans’ support over all these years, that’s why we had to take these precautionary steps to follow safety guidelines.”

The first Nedbank Cup quarterfinal will see TTM host SuperSport United on Friday, 8 April at Thohoyandou Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:00.
