Cape Town City FC on Tuesday night defeated Maritzburg United 3-2 in the DStv Premiership but coach Eric Tinkler was not happy with his side’s defence. The coach said that he can’t really figure out what the issue in defence is but he has to work on improving their defensive work as they almost threw out the lead in the dying minutes.
“I am happy with the game and how we started as they put them under pressure from the start and we got an early lead. I felt that we could even have gone five up in the first half if we had used the chances we created. We were comfortable going into the half time and started the second half very well again, ” he said.
Tinkler said in the second half they continued where they left off and scored another goal though United pulled one back but then they scored the third but once again United pulled one back.
” This was reminding me of the Golden Arrows game where they equalised in the dying minutes. We have to work on our defence. I can’t really say what’s is wrong but we have to improve on the way we defend so that we are not under pressure when we take a lead, ” Tinkler added.
He concluded by saying that apart from the defensive errors they should also try to make sure they convert as many chances as they create so that they are safe.
