The Premier Soccer League is yet to speak out and give directive as to what will happen to the remaining four matches for the month of December 2021 for Kaizer Chiefs after their request to have their five games postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus at their Naturena Village training grounds. Chiefs announced yesterday that their initial 31 positive covid19 cases had increased to 36 after five more people tested positive yesterday.
Chiefs announced last week that they would be shutting down their headquarters after a number of positive cases were confirmed, this included players and other personnel within the club.
Chiefs were unable to honour their weekend fixture against Cape Town City FC which was meant to be played at the FNB Stadium. The Cape Town based club arrived to locked gates at the iconic stadium, it now stands to be seem what will happen to that fixture.
Meanwhile, following further consultations with the medical department and management regarding the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak that occurred at the Kaizer Chiefs Village last week, Kaizer Chiefs is unable to travel for the scheduled league match against Lamontville Golden Arrows, scheduled for Wednesday, 8 December at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, the club said in a statement released yesterday.
While Kaizer Chiefs awaits the Premier Soccer League’s decision on the Club’s request to have the remainder of their matches scheduled for December postponed, the playing squad has cautiously resumed return to play protocols today.
The club also confirmed that some staff members will be emerging from isolation and returning to work in the coming days. However, players who have completed their isolation will need to undergo special return to play protocols to get them back to match fitness. The medical team and the coaches will monitor the situation very closely to try and mitigate risk.
