Maritzburg United started the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season with a loss to Golden Arrows in a KZN derby and coach Ernest Midderndorp says it’s not unusual for a team to struggle in the first game of the season.
“We haven’t played any competitive match before this one as we were not part of the MTN8, but I believe we did well. We also had new players who are not really used to each other, and they had to play together in a competitive game and looking at how they played I believe we have a good future as a team, ” he said.
Midderndorp said that coming from 2-0 down in the first half to lose only 2-1 shows that they are not bad at all and that they can take a lot of positives from this game going forward. United’s next match will be against newcomers Sekhukhune United on Wednesday afternoon at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
