Mamelodi Sundowns has retained most of the players that lifted the DSTV Premiership trophy in the last season and this will surely set the consistency in the club, and this makes coach Rhulani Mokoena much happier.
Co-coach Rhulani Mokwena has revealed that his squad has enough depth as they prepare for the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season. Sundowns has played and won their opening game against AmaZulu FC who finished second last season, a single goal was registered at the Loftus Stadium via a penalty taken by Themba Zwane on Friday afternoon.
Mokwena shed some light on how the club’s pre-season went, saying that while preparations for the new season went well, there were those players who had picked up some minor injuries.
He added that they also watched them against Cape Town City and saw that their new signings like left back Philani Zulu have adapted very well in the team.
Meanwhile Mokwena added that their first game which was against Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN 8 Quarterfinals was not about the results but gauging themselves and preparing for a congested fixture and the recovery in those football matches.
“We know that it won’t be free flowing in the first few matches and only hope to hit top gear on match five.
We then want to hit fluidity in match 6 or 7 while at the same time gelling together as a team and also increase the match fitness and match minutes amongst the squad, ” he concluded.
