CAF Champions League finalists Kaizer Chiefs have started the countdown to their historic date with Egypian giants Al Ahly and goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has said that being crowns champions will be the biggest dream in his football career.
Chiefs meet Al Ahly on Saturday, 17 July in Morocco and many are waiting with great anticipation and hope that Chiefs will end Al Ahly’s reign as “African giants”. The Nigerian born goalie said that he and his teammates would be honoured to deliver the trophy to Naturena.
” This means a lot to the progress of the club as we have waited for more than 50 years to reach this stage of the tournament and considering how we performed in the league this means a lot to the supporters and everyone at the club. After struggling on the local league, we fought hard in the DStv Premiership and fought hard in the Champions League and we are on the verge of winning the trophy and make the team proud, “added the keeper.
On another note Akpeyi said that this is a massive progress to South African football and South African team as Mamelodi Sundowns raised the bar when they won the trophy in 2016.
“Chiefs are the darling of South African football and we hope every individual South African is proud of the team right now and they will be looking forward to seeing the team lift the CAF Champions League trophy come July 17 in Morocco,” he added.
He then thanked and applauded the supporters for their patience in waiting for the team to provide a trophy for them after a long drought and he said that it was important that they deliver the biggest trophy to them so that they can bring back the smiles and happiness to them.
