AmaZulu head coach Benni MacCarthy was yesterday announced as one of the contenders for the Coach of the Season Award. McCarthy, who joined the Kwa-Zulu Natal based club last December, has shared his nomination with his assistant coaches, Siyabonga Nomvethe and Moneeb Josephs.
McCarthy shares the nomination for the top accolade with Golden Arrows coach mandla ncikazi, Mamelodi Sundowns duo, Rulani Mokoena and manqoba mngqithi. The awards are set to happen on Sunday the 06th of June virtually.
Speaking after their loss to Orlando Pirates on Thursday evening, McCarthy said that he credited the nomination to team work. He said this was not an individual work but combined hard work of his fellow coaches and the players.
“It’s the coaches who get the accolades when teams win games and they are the ones who carry the responsibility when the teams get not so good results,” he said.
The former Orlando Pirates player added that as coaches they had done well with the team. He also complemented the players for “executing tactics well.”
McCarthy also pointed out that one of his greatest desire as a coach in the PSL was to make a difference in the lives of players. “I congratulated all the coaches for their efforts in developing the players and the game in the county,” the Bafana Bafana legend concluded.
